Danil “molodoy” Golubenko is reshaping his approach to Counter-Strike as FURIA prepare for Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo’s farewell tour in 2026. The Kazakh AWPer told reporters at BLAST Rivals media day that individual brilliance alone won’t cut it anymore—not when his captain and mentor has just 247 days left in professional play.
FalleN’s retirement announcement at IEM Rio hit molodoy particularly hard. The Brazilian legend brought him into FURIA and guided him through the brutal transition to international Counter-Strike. “He’s like a father figure to me,” molodoy explained, describing how FalleN supported him through language barriers and tactical adjustments during his rookie season.
From rookie sensation to team player
The 21-year-old’s debut campaign was nothing short of spectacular. HLTV crowned him Rookie of the Year for 2025 after he averaged a 1.17 rating and helped FURIA capture four major titles: FISSURE Playground 2, Thunderpick World Championship, IEM Chengdu, and BLAST Rivals Season 2. His MVP performances at FISSURE Playground 2 and Chengdu announced him as Counter-Strike’s newest superstar.
That breakout run peaked with FURIA’s incredible reverse sweep against NAVI at Thunderpick World Championship, where molodoy and YEKINDAR dominated the final maps. Their 3-0 demolition of Vitality at IEM Chengdu—FURIA’s first-ever Intel Extreme Masters trophy—seemed to confirm molodoy as the future of the AWP role.
Growing pains in year two
But 2026 has brought different challenges. FURIA’s semi-final exit at IEM Rio, falling 2-0 to Vitality despite passionate home crowd support, exposed the gap between being dangerous and being champions. With Vitality, NAVI, Spirit, and Falcons setting the pace, molodoy knows raw talent isn’t enough.
His solution? Stop chasing personal highlights and start perfecting his role within FURIA’s system. “Individual performance means nothing if we’re not winning trophies,” he said. “Counter-Strike is a team game first.”
The mental shift reflects his improved communication too. During his first tournament, molodoy admits he barely understood the in-game calls and relied purely on instinct. Now his English has strengthened and he grasps FURIA’s tactical framework, allowing him to respond precisely to what teammates need.
BLAST Rivals and beyond
FURIA open their BLAST Rivals campaign against GamerLegion—a fixture molodoy refuses to underestimate. “Any strong opponent can punish mistakes in CS2,” he warned. Rather than bold trophy predictions, FURIA are focused on consistent improvement and solving problems quickly enough for deep runs.
For FalleN, this represents the final act of one of Counter-Strike’s most storied careers. For molodoy, it’s a chance to prove his rookie heroics were just the beginning. If FURIA are to give their captain the perfect farewell, the young AWPer’s evolution from star player to complete teammate could be the key.
