What is HLTV Rating in CS2?

HLTV Rating 2.1 is the industry-standard composite score for individual player performance in professional Counter-Strike matches. It combines kills, deaths, damage, multi-kills, opening-kill success, clutch outcomes and a handful of other round-level signals into a single number, scaled so that 1.00 represents league-average performance across the current top-30 professional teams.

A rating above 1.20 is elite territory over a series — sustained across a season it usually indicates a top-30 world player. A rating below 0.90 is a red flag; sustained under-performance at this level typically leads to a benching or roster move within a few months. The rating is calibrated per-map, so a 1.15 on Mirage means something different than 1.15 on Nuke — CT-favoured maps produce slightly higher ratings across the board because defensive rounds inflate multi-kill opportunities.

For bettors, HLTV rating is the single strongest signal of individual player form. It's what the sharpest bookmaker models weight most heavily when setting player prop lines (kills, headshots, ADR).

What is ADR in CS2?

ADR — Average Damage per Round — measures how much total damage a player deals across every round in a match, divided by the number of rounds played. In CS2 the standard health pool is 100 HP, so an ADR of 85 means the player deals roughly 85 damage per round on average — enough to finish off any teammate-injured opponent, but not always a full kill.

ADR is the cleanest raw-output stat in Counter-Strike. Unlike kills (which can be traded, denied, or stolen) ADR captures actual contribution to the round even when the kill goes to a teammate. Top-30 professional players typically post 85-95 ADR over a season. Sustained 100+ ADR is elite (last year only 3-4 players cleared it consistently). ADR under 65 usually signals a struggling player or a bad matchup.

ADR is one of the most-priced player props on major sportsbooks. The typical line is 75-90 depending on the player and match format (BO1 vs BO3). Line-shopping across 3-4 books on ADR props often shows 3-5% pricing variance — one of the biggest edges available in CS2 betting.

What is KAST% in CS2?

KAST% — Kill / Assist / Survive / Trade percentage — measures the share of rounds in which a player did at least one of four useful things: got a kill, got an assist, survived to the round end, or was killed but immediately traded (avenged within a few seconds) by a teammate. It's a "how often did you contribute" stat rather than a "how big was your contribution" stat like ADR.

Top-30 professionals maintain KAST% between 72% and 82%. Elite players push above 82%. Support and IGL players (who tend to have lower kill counts but still contribute utility, information and trades) rely on KAST% to prove their value on the scoreboard when their rating and ADR look modest.

KAST% is highly correlated with team win-rate — teams whose bottom-fragger holds above 70% KAST almost always outperform their raw kill-total ranking. When betting on team totals or map handicaps, checking whether a team has one KAST-below-65% player is a fast way to spot a fragile lineup.

What is Opening Kill Differential?

Opening Kill Differential tracks how often a player wins the first duel of a round (an "opening kill" or "first blood") versus how often they die in the first duel. A positive OK differential over 20+ rounds strongly correlates with team round-win probability — the round where the first kill happens is won by that team roughly 70-75% of the time in CS2.

This is the single most predictive individual stat for match outcomes. Even more than HLTV rating, opening-kill success determines round outcomes and therefore map outcomes. Entry fraggers (players whose role is to take first contact on bombsite executes) live and die by this metric — an entry fragger with a +5 OK differential in a match is doing their job; one at -3 is almost certainly on the losing side.

For prop bettors, "first kill" markets (which player gets the first kill of the map) are among the highest-variance bets in CS2 but also one of the areas where research pays back the most — checking who's been getting first kills consistently against the specific opponent's opening tendencies is genuine edge.

Kill/Death Ratio (K/D) — Why It's Overrated

K/D is the stat casual viewers see first, but professional analysts weight it lowest of the "big four" metrics. The reason: K/D doesn't distinguish between a kill that won the round and a kill that came after the round was already lost. A player who fragged out for 5 kills in a losing pistol round has the same K/D contribution as one who got 5 kills across three round-winning clutches.

K/D is still useful as a sanity check. Top-30 professionals sit at 1.10 – 1.25 K/D over a season. Anything above 1.35 is elite. K/D under 0.90 across a full season signals a struggling player. But if you had to pick one metric to evaluate a player, ADR or HLTV rating gives more information per number.

Headshot Percentage — Style, Not Skill

Headshot% reflects a player's aim style and preferred weapons more than pure skill. Rifles like the AK-47 and M4A4 favour headshot-heavy playstyles; AWPers with the sniper rifle produce more body shots because one-shot-kills to the body are enough. So AWPers naturally have lower headshot% (30-40%) while riflers push 45-60%.

Headshot props are popular but tricky. The line usually sits at 15-25 headshots per match (BO3). Successful headshot prop bettors track opponent map + role rather than raw headshot% — a rifler facing an AWPer has fewer headshot opportunities than a rifler facing a rifler. Cross-referencing player headshot% against the specific opponent's typical role produces most of the edge in this market.

Utility Usage & Flash Assists

Utility usage — how many flashbangs, smokes, molotovs and HE grenades a player throws per round, and how many opponents they flash-blind for teammate kills — is the hidden metric that separates good support players from great ones. Professional support players average 1.5-2.5 flash assists per map, providing value that doesn't show up in kill counts.

Most bookmakers don't price flash-assist props specifically for CS2 (they're common in Valorant markets). But teams with strong utility usage tend to over-perform their raw individual stat totals in map handicaps — a good sanity check when a team's kill leaderboard looks weak but they consistently win.

Map-Specific Stats — Why They Matter

CS2's competitive map pool as of 2026 includes Mirage, Inferno, Nuke, Anubis, Ancient, Dust2 and Vertigo (rotated periodically by Valve). Player performance varies dramatically by map — some players are 1.20+ on Mirage but 0.85 on Nuke, because the tactical demands differ so much.

For serious analysis and betting, always check map-specific splits rather than overall averages. A player projected to have 22 kills over a BO3 might realistically land at 15 kills if two of the three maps are ones they historically struggle on. The maps a team picks in the veto tell you a lot — teams pick their strongest maps first and ban opponents' strongest ones.

Side Splits — CT vs T Performance

Almost every stat has a CT-side and a T-side split. On average, CT-side is slightly easier in CS2 (winning ~53% of rounds across the map pool) because defenders can hold angles and force attackers into commitments. So most players have higher ratings, ADR and K/D on CT.

When a player is significantly better on one side (e.g. a T-side lurker who posts 1.30 rating on attack but drops to 0.85 on defence), it tells you their role is specialised. That specialisation matters for half-by-half betting: if a heavily T-sided player is starting on CT, they'll typically under-perform the first half. Contrarian bets on second-half comebacks often exploit this pattern.

Are CS2 stats different from CS:GO stats?
