How is HLTV rating calculated?
Rating 2.0 (released by HLTV in 2017) blends five components: KPR (kills per round), survival rate, ADR, KAST (kill/assist/survive/trade %), and an impact metric measuring multi-kill and clutch contributions. The formula is normalised so 1.00 represents an average tier-1 pro across a full season.
What is a good HLTV rating?
In professional CS2, the benchmarks are: <1.00 below average, 1.00-1.05 average, 1.05-1.10 strong, 1.10-1.20 elite, 1.20+ historically great. Among the all-time leaders, ZywOo, s1mple, m0NESY and donk have posted 1.20+ averages across full seasons.
How is rating different from KD ratio?
KD ratio only counts kills divided by deaths — it ignores impact rounds, damage, and contribution to teammates' kills (assists, traded deaths). Rating 2.0 fixes those blind spots. A player with a 1.10 rating but flat KD is contributing meaningfully (KAST, damage); a player with high KD but low KAST is fragging without supporting the team.
