Retake

A retake is when the CT side pushes back onto a bombsite after the bomb has been planted. CTs must kill all remaining T's or defuse the bomb before it explodes, usually under a 40-second timer.

What is a retake in CS2?

After a plant, the CTs have roughly 40 seconds to either kill all remaining T's or defuse the bomb. Successful retakes depend heavily on utility coordination, numbers advantage (5v4 or 5v3 retakes are much higher EV than 3v3) and post-plant positions. The T side is usually spread across crossfires designed to punish a coordinated retake. Execution order matters: most pro retakes begin with a flash into common T hold positions, then entries with rifles, with the AWPer sitting back to deny opposing utility. Retake win rates sit around 25–35% depending on side count. CT teams that retake well (Astralis historically, Vitality currently) convert significantly above base rate.
