Clutch· Clutch situation (1vX)

A clutch is when one player remains alive against multiple opponents and wins the round. 1v3 and 1v4 clutch wins are rare, highlight-reel events that often decide matches.

What is a clutch in CS2?

Clutches are the highest-variance part of CS2. The base rates are: 1v1 hovers around 50% for the better-positioned player, 1v2 is roughly 15–22% league-average, 1v3 is 5–8%, 1v4 is 1–2%, and 1v5 is a legend-making event. Players known for clutching (Xyp9x, NiKo, ZywOo, device) run above-average rates at every bracket — a consistent 1v2 win rate above 25% is a meaningful skill signature. Clutches correlate with map and timing: late-round retakes where the CT has the information advantage convert higher, whereas post-plant 1vX defuses are typically harder. Playing for clutch (e.g. holding a cross instead of committing to save) is a decision that carries expected value based on the round's economic state.
