What is a pistol round in CS2?
Each half of a CS2 match begins with a pistol round. With only $800 each, most players carry their default pistol (Glock for T, USP or P2000 for CT), grab armor or a flash, and enter duels. Winning the pistol round creates a snowball: the winner has cash for SMGs or armor + upgraded pistols in round 2, and the loser can't afford a full buy until round 4+. Historical round-win data shows pistol winners take the next 2–3 rounds at elevated rates. That's why pistol rounds are disproportionately scrutinised — they shift expected map outcome by 5–10 percentage points. Anti-eco play in rounds 2-3 is the natural continuation of winning the pistol.
