Smoke· Smoke grenade

A smoke grenade is a $300 grenade that blocks line of sight for 18 seconds. Smokes are the primary tool for denying angles — "smoking off" a chokepoint lets attackers cross with no vision disadvantage.

What is a smoke grenade in CS2?

CS2 uses a volumetric smoke model: the cloud fills 3D space and interacts with utility (molotovs burn through smokes, HE grenades push them). A standard smoke covers ~2 metres of horizontal space and lasts 18 seconds. Executes rely on smoking off the angles defenders could hold from — e.g. Jungle and CT on Mirage when taking A-site. Defensively, smokes are used to split bombsites, to cut off rotations, and to stall retakes. Learning standard smoke lineups per map is foundational CS2 skill. The volumetric upgrade in CS2 (vs CS:GO's flat-sprite smokes) changed tactical utility by making smokes dynamically split by grenades.
