Tier· Tournament tier

Tournament tiers classify CS2 events by prize pool, team quality and prestige. Tier-1 (Majors, IEM Katowice, BLAST Fall Final) has $500K+ prize pools; Tier-2 events run $50K-$200K with mid-level teams; Tier-3 is regional online.

What are tournament tiers in CS2?

The tier system is not formal — it emerged from fan and analyst usage. Roughly: Tier-1 is the top dozen events per year that all top-16 teams attend (Majors, IEM Katowice, BLAST Premier World Final, ESL Pro League, PGL tournaments). Tier-2 includes regional circuits (IEM regional, ESL Challenger) and mid-prize-pool events where top-20 teams skip but top-30 teams grind. Tier-3 is regional online leagues and qualifiers. The tier a player performs at matters more than raw rating — a 1.20 rating in Tier-3 is not equivalent to 1.20 in Tier-1. HLTV and most analysts apply implicit tier weighting when ranking players.
