Falcons needed a 3-9 comeback on the deciding map just to beat Lynn Vision 2-1 in their BLAST Open Porto 2026 opener, and coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen was not interested in celebrating the scoreline. His team, he said afterward, still becomes “too easily frustrated” when lower-ranked opponents refuse to play along with expectations — and the next opponent on the schedule is precisely the team built to exploit that.
A win that exposed more than it proved
Falcons cruised through Inferno 13-4 behind TeSeS, then lost Ancient 10-13 after Lynn Vision built an early lead. Dust2 nearly got away from them entirely: Lynn Vision raced out to a 9-2 advantage before Falcons shut out the rest of the half, winning ten straight rounds to close it 13-9. Kyousuke led the recovery with 20 kills on the map, while m0NESY finished the series with a match-high 58 kills. zonic called the individual play and communication below standard for most of the match, and said the only thing he took from the result was that his players found a way out of the frustration rather than letting it decide the series.
The mentality problem isn’t new
zonic traced the issue to how Falcons react when opponents show no respect for the reputation across the server — a dynamic that has dragged the team into uncomfortable matches before, including in the stretch since karrigan replaced kyxsan as in-game leader in April and Falcons won the IEM Cologne Major two months later. Since Cologne, results have been shakier: a 1-2 loss to 100 Thieves in BLAST Bounty Season 2, then a run at the Esports World Cup that ended with a 0-2 quarter-final exit to Legacy. zonic pushed back on calling it a Major hangover, framing it instead as the challenge of finding new motivation once the biggest trophy in the sport is already won — particularly for kyousuke, who reached that milestone unusually early in his career.
Legacy again, with a score to settle
Falcons face Legacy on August 29 in the Group B upper-bracket semi-final, and the recent history is one-sided in Legacy’s favor. Legacy beat Falcons 3-1 in the CS Asia Championships grand final in May, then eliminated them 2-0 at the Esports World Cup on August 21, overturning a 5-7 halftime deficit on Mirage before closing Dust2 13-10. That EWC loss came in Falcons’ first LAN appearance after winning Cologne, and it was delivered by the same current Legacy lineup of try, arT, dumau, latto and n1ssim — not the roster that used saadzin in May — making the August 21 result the more relevant form guide. Legacy have carried that momentum straight into Porto, opening with a clean 2-0 win over FUT.
What it means going into the semi-final
zonic described Legacy as a team comfortable making Falcons uncomfortable, unbothered by the names across the server — the exact profile he just identified as a problem for his own roster. Falcons are still ranked No. 2 in the world to Legacy’s No. 7, and nothing about the matchup makes Legacy outright favorites. But it does remove any argument that Falcons can lean on reputation alone. The winner secures a direct playoff spot in Porto; the loser survives into the lower bracket but loses any margin for further mistakes. For a Falcons side that has now shown it can grind through discomfort against Lynn Vision, Legacy will test whether that composure holds against an opponent with genuine recent proof it can beat them straight.
