MR15· Max Rounds 15 (legacy)

MR15 was the CS:GO competitive format: each half had 15 rounds, first to 16 won, and OT was MR3. CS2 replaced it with MR12 in early 2024 to shorten matches.

What is MR15 in CS2?

MR15 was the standard CS:GO format from 2012 through the CS2 transition. Teams played 15 rounds per side for a 30-round regulation match; first to 16 rounds won. The format produced iconic scorelines (16-14, 16-7) and was the baseline for almost all recorded historical data. CS2 moved to MR12 to keep matches playable within tighter TV windows and reduce viewer drop-off. Analytically, MR15 stats don't map cleanly onto MR12 without adjustment — a player's per-match kill total naturally drops ~20% in MR12 because there are fewer rounds, so longitudinal comparisons need to normalise per-round.
