The Esports World Cup 2026 is reportedly moving from Riyadh to Paris, according to GamesBeat citing multiple industry sources. Stake-holders inside the EWC ecosystem have already been informed of the relocation, though an official spokesperson declined to comment publicly. The seven-week event is scheduled for 6 July – 23 August 2026 — and would make Paris the first European host city for the Saudi-backed esports mega-festival.
The scale
The numbers behind EWC 2026 are unprecedented: 25 tournaments across 24 esports titles, 2,000+ professional players, 200+ esports organisations, and a record-breaking $75 million total prize pool. EWC Foundation CEO Ralf Reichert had already publicly acknowledged that travel planning had been complicated by the ongoing Iran conflict — ‘people are more hesitant to travel.’
CS2 expansion details
The Counter-Strike 2 tournament at EWC 2026 is expected to be the biggest version yet: 32 teams (up from 16), a $2 million prize pool, double-elimination group stages, and a non-BYOC open LAN qualifier featuring up to 128 teams. Additional regional invites for North America, South America, and Asia. Most participating teams still qualify through Valve Regional Standings.
The Valve approval question
Because the event was originally registered for Riyadh, Valve may need to approve the venue change under tournament regulations. It’s also unclear whether the open LAN qualifier format can be preserved with the late location shift. The previous EWC CS champions: NAVI in 2024, The MongolZ in 2025 (3-? grand-final win over Aurora). For CS2 fans, the open questions are whether dates, qualifier structure, and competitive format remain unchanged under the new geography.
