Danylo ‘Zeus’ Teslenko reads the IEM Cologne Major 2026 field the way analysts would describe the strongest Major in years. The former NAVI captain and 2018 Major champion told fans ahead of the June 2-21 event that the parity at the top of CS2 makes Cologne exceptionally open: 32 teams, $1.25 million prize pool, and at least eight credible champions on the bracket.
The contender shortlist
Vitality, NAVI, Spirit, MOUZ, G2, FaZe, The MongolZ, and FURIA — that’s Zeus’s list. Vitality remain world No. 1 with structured play. NAVI have just lifted IEM Atlanta. Spirit have just won PGL Astana. MOUZ are running the xertioN-led rebuild. G2 are quietly consistent. The MongolZ are the dark horse. FURIA found identity at Astana. The gap between Tier-1 teams is smaller than at any point in the CS2 era.
The format change that matters
ESL has reportedly removed Bo1s from Stage 3 entirely. Every elimination/advancement match in the Swiss stage is now best-of-three. That rewards consistency, reduces variance-driven upsets, and raises the level of play through the bracket. magixx put it plainly when discussing Vitality: ‘We’re playing pretty good, so I’m really looking forward to Vitality because maybe we can win a map.’ The maybe is the point — at the previous level, that wasn’t even on the table.
The FaZe shock
The biggest absence is FaZe Clan. After failing to qualify, one of the most recognisable organisations in modern CS history won’t be on the bracket — a sign of how brutal the qualification path has become in the CS2 era. The playoffs will be played at the iconic LANXESS Arena. Zeus’s prediction: a defining tournament for the early CS2 era. The field agrees.
