Force buy

A force buy is when a team spends their limited money (often after losing a round) to buy partial equipment — usually a rifle, no armor, limited utility — hoping to win the round before the opponent gets an economic snowball going.

What is a force buy in CS2?

Force buys sit in between full buys and ecos. The calculation is: "We don't have enough for a full buy, but full-saving means we eat another predictable loss. If we force, there's maybe a 30–40% chance we win the round and disrupt the opponent's economy." Force-buy rounds are historically a loss majority of the time but produce compounding upside when they connect — a force-buy win can break a losing streak and swing the map. Different teams force at different thresholds (e.g. $2,500 vs. $3,200) based on their IGL's risk tolerance. The AWPer is often the first player to drop a rifle to in a force buy because their weapon's impact is worth the economic compromise.
