IGL· In-Game Leader

The IGL (In-Game Leader) is the player who calls mid-round decisions and sets strategy. Their individual frag output is often lower than teammates because they trade time and mental bandwidth on tactics for raw aim.

What is an IGL in CS2?

The IGL is the roster equivalent of a quarterback. They interpret intel from the round's opening, decide when to execute, when to fake, when to regroup for late-round hits, and which bombsite to target in the decision seconds before a committed push. Because calling takes cognitive load, IGLs historically post lower raw ratings than their teammates — a 1.00 IGL on a top team is valuable; a 1.05 IGL is exceptional. The better way to evaluate IGLs is through team-level metrics: mid-round adaptation rate, post-plant win rate, and how their team performs in the last 3 rounds of halves. Legendary IGLs like gla1ve, karrigan and zonic are remembered for match-winning calls, not individual highlights.
