What is an AWPer in CS2?
The AWP is CS2's most impactful individual weapon: one-shot kills to body or head at any distance. A dedicated AWPer is the player tasked with carrying and maximising that weapon. Elite AWPers drive team ratings out of proportion to their share of kills because one AWP pick on a map's long angle frequently decides whether a round is playable or a lost cause. Because the weapon costs $4,750, AWPers also function as economic anchors — teams often drop rifles to them first. Historically, the world's highest-rated players have been AWPers (s1mple, ZywOo, dev1ce, sh1ro) because the weapon's impact ceiling is so much higher than rifles. Losing the AWPer on a force buy or eco round is a meaningful event for the round's outcome.
