Support· Support role

A support player throws utility (flashes, smokes, molotovs), trades kills for the entry fragger, and sacrifices their individual stats to enable teammates' plays. Their rating is typically lower but their impact shows up in team-level metrics.

What is a support role in CS2?

Support is the cohesion glue of a CS2 roster. On T-side executes, the support throws the flashes that let the entry in safely and gets the trade kill if the entry dies. On CT-side the support is often the player holding the less-contested angle, saving utility for retakes. Because supports make teammates' stats look better, their individual KAST is usually high but ADR and rating look muted. Evaluating a support requires looking at the team's opening-duel win rate, their teammates' entry conversion rate, and post-plant win percentages — metrics that inflate when a support plays well. Signature support players have included Xyp9x (clutch minister at Astralis) and apEX (at Vitality).
