Lurker

A lurker is the player who plays away from their team's main push, gathering information and threatening rotations from behind. They often punish retakes and pick off players rotating away from the primary site.

What is a lurker in CS2?

Lurkers are defined by spatial separation from the rest of the roster. While four teammates execute a main site take, the lurker sits on a mid- or off-site angle, waits for rotations, and either punishes rotating CTs or punishes retakes from the flank. The role requires excellent map sense, crosshair placement, and timing — a lurker who commits too early gets isolated, and one who commits too late misses the rotation window. Great lurkers post very high KAST and clutch win rates because their isolation frequently puts them in 1-vs-X situations. Iconic modern lurkers include device (in his Astralis prime) and ropz.
